I am typing from the Hilton in Villahermosa to update on our journey so far. Our first 2 days driving in Texas were well what you expect spending 2 days driving through Texas ... Yawn! We had no problems getting through the border. Honestly the only sour faces have come from those who notice our license plates or drivers liscense said we were from Arizona. Arizonians are now very unpopular (understandably). The drive has been interesting and increasingly more and more beautiful. Today we drove through the state of Vera Cruz. I am not exagerating when I say it rivaled if not at times exceeded the beauty of Hawaii. Rolling green hills lush growth and trees growing a canopy over the freeway.
So far the only real negative moment was last night. We stayed in a camping/ecoadventure site. ie. they had snorkeling, zip lines through the jungle... We of course had no time for any of that but did like that they had tidy little cabanas in the jungle and allowed dogs. Fabulous right?!?!?.... yeah not so much.
About 30 minutes after we fell asleep we were jolted awake from the sound of Rosie, our little dog, yelping at the top of her lungs in pain.
I flew to the light switch saw her cowering nursing a hurt foot. I look up and a foot from Ed's head in bed is a black scorpion 4 inches long.
Ed killed it while I looked over Rosie. Her little paw started to swell but she seemed ok, not in pain. I gave her benadryl to stave off any possible allergic reactions. Needless to say we slept with the light on and one eye open. Also with two dogs snuggled close.
In the morning Rosie had no swelling and no tenderness. She was running and jumping and as full of it as she usually is. Thank Goodness!!!!
So one more day on the road before we pull in some time tomorrow evening. I don't know how long it will take to get internet at the house, but you will know as soon as we do!
