Our day in Izamal

Izamal is another quaint town with lots of history. It has the historical colonial centro district, and also smack dab in the middle of the town is the remnants of a Mayan Pyramid.

With all of our recent rain, the drive is surrounded by endless lush green jungle.

Even dead trees get swallowed up by the crazy vines.

Always you will find the beautiful blossoming Flamboyanes Trees:
Izamal is called "The Golden City" because all of the old colonials are painted gold:
They had a wonderful center square bustling with people:
As with many of these colonial towns, the center of it all is a beautiful church:
They were having a service that morning and the old bells were ringing away!
You can really tell the church has been there awhile when you drive around the back.
Izamal is also known for it's Victorias (horse drawn taxis)
They were all around!

As mentioned earlier, Izamal has a Mayan pyramid right in the middle of town:
The rest of the day was spent driving through small pueblos on the way home. We saw the usual beautiful scenery and people:
(above is blue agave for making tequilla)
And on a final note.
Do you remember this sign:
The horridly happy pig who was greeting you merrily while apparently boiling?

We found another sign even worse!
Not only is this pig happy to be called dinner, HE IS BASTING HIMSELF!
There are obviously some very twisted pigs in the Yucatan!

Love you!
